Jason Schmidt, Randy Wolf, Mark Hendrickson, Chad Billingsley, Scott Elbert, Greg Miller, Travis Smith, Matt White, Jonathan Broxton, Joe Beimel, Elmer Dessens, Eric Hull and Takashi Saito all tossed their second bullpen sessions and afterward Manager Grady Little singled out Elbert, Miller and Hull as "three young men who know what they're doing on the mound."

GO LOWE ON OPENING DAY: Dodger manager Grady Little announced today that right-hander Derek Lowe would be the Dodgers' Opening Day starter for the third consecutive season on April 2 in Milwaukee. "It's a great honor," said Lowe. "I look forward to the build up, the packed stadium and how it's almost like a playoff atmosphere." MLB.com Dodger beat writer Ken Gurnick asked Lowe if he had ever won an Opening Day start. "No, and thanks for reminding me Kenny, I appreciate it," said a laughing Lowe. "One was halfway decent and the other was terrible, but I'm thankful for another try. Hopefully, the third time's the charm." Last season, Lowe gave up seven runs in 5.0 innings in an eventual 11-10 Opening Day-loss to the Braves. In 2005, Lowe gave up just two earned runs in 7.0 innings, but lost in San Francisco. The 10-year veteran tied for the National League lead with 16 wins last year and led the Dodgers in innings pitched with 218.0. Lowe is also five strikeouts away from recording his 1,000th-career whiff.

THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN:  As of mid-afternoon all of the veterans had reported to camp with the exception of Jeff Kent, whose flight was scheduled to arrive in Vero Beach at 3 p.m. ET. Nomar Garciaparra, Rafael Furcal, Olmedo Saenz, Marlon Anderson, Tony Abreu and Fernando Tatis all worked out and took their physicals after reporting to Dodgertown. Tomorrow, third base coach Rich Donnelly, who runs the Spring Training workouts, will change up the program to include infield/outfield practice, baserunning drills, situational fielding, and extended batting practice as the full squad reports.

THE GOLDEST GLOVES – Rawlings announced the nominees for their 50 greatest defensive players of all time, as chosen by a Gold Ribbon Panel of baseball experts and historians.  From that ballot, fans will be asked to choose just one player at each position to form the All-Time Rawlings Gold Glove team later this year. Former Dodger first baseman Wes Parker is on the ballot after winning six straight Gold Gloves in Los Angeles from 1967-72. Parker played his entire career with the Dodgers (1964-72), and finished fifth in the 1970 NL MVP vote after hitting .319 with 47 doubles and 111 RBI. Parker also helped the Dodgers win the 1965 World Series over the Twins, hitting .304 with a homer and two RBI while playing error-free baseball in the seven-game series. The Evanston, Ill. native will be up against Don Mattingly, Vic Power, Bill White, Keith Hernandez and J.T. Snow for the honor.  Other former Dodgers on the ballot include Devon White (center field), Greg Maddux (pitcher) and Ken Boyer (third base).  Since the inception of the Gold Glove Award in 1957, 18 Dodgers have taken home the honor 34 times, including Gil Hodges, who was on the inaugural team at first base.
