Minor League Clubs Open Thursday

The Minor League season gets underway tonight (Thursday) with a rush as Las Vegas travels to Salt Lake, Jacksonville hosts Tennessee, Inland Empire is at High Desert and Great Lakes kicks off their first season with the Dodger at South Bend. It's the first season in the Dodger chain for Inland Empire (nee Vero Beach Dodgers) and the Great Lakes Loons operated as the Columbus Catfish last season.

The 51s are guided by Lorenzo Bundy, in his first season in the Dodger organization after four seasons in the Diamondbacks' system as the hitting coach at Triple-A Tucson. Mike Easler moves up from the hitting coach at Jacksonville last year to a similar position with Las Vegas. Pitching coach Ken Howell moves up from the same job with the Suns.

Veteran manager John Shoemaker opens his 17th year as a manager with the Dodgers after winning the Southern League title and the first-half division championship last year. He will build on his fourth place all-time record for Dodger minor league managers with 1,018 wins. Hitting coach is Luis Salazar, the 2006 manager at Vero Beach and Danny Darwin enters his second season as pitching coach for the Suns.

Dave Collins, a veteran of 16 major league seasons, will be in his first years in the Dodgers system as manager and Inland Empire. He was first base coach for the Colorado Rockies for the past four seasons and is entering his 29th year in professional baseball. Veteran Dodger Steve Yeager will be the hitting coach after serving in the same capacity at Las Vegas in 2006 and in Jacksonville in 2005. He played 14 years with the Dodgers and holds a number of catching records with the club. Another Dodger veteran, Charlie Hough, is the 66ers pitching coach. He had a 25-year Major League career and pitched for the Dodgers for 11 seasons.

The inaugural manager of the Great Lakes Loons will be Lance Parrish, an eight-time Major League All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger Award winner over his 19-year Major League career. He managed the Ogden Raptors last season and was a coach for the San Antonio Missions 1997-98, serving as interim manager in '98. Garey Ingram ended his 15-year Major League career in 2002 and joined the Gulf Coast Dodgers as a coach the same year. He is in his fifth season with the Dodgers and joined an elite group when as a Dodger on May 19, 1994 he homered in his first Major League time at bat at Mile High Stadium in Colorado. Glenn Dishman will be the pitching coach after serving in the same capacity for Vero Beach in 2006 and for Columbus in 2005. A three-year Major League pitcher, he played with San Diego, Philadelphia and Detroit.

Las Vegas plays their first home series on April 13-16 when they host Salt Lake. The Inland Empire 66ers are at home for the first time April 12-15 with Lancaster and the Great Lakes Loons inaugurate Dow Diamond for the first game on April 13-14 against Lansing.
