Hoffmann, McDonald - Players of Week

Each week LAdugout.com is saluting a player and pitcher from the Dodger organization for outstanding performances over the past seven days. Players are currently selected from Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Inland Empire and Great Lakes.

Player-- Jamie Hoffmann, of, Inland Empire- Manager Dave Collins has recently shuffled his 66ers batting order with one of the key moves bringing Hoffmann up to leadoff man. He's been responding splendidly with 11 hits in his last 21 at-bats. During that stretch, he pounded five doubles, drove in three runs and stole two bases.

For the season, Hoffmann is hitting .365 with two home runs, 18 RBI and five stolen bases.

Pitcher-- James McDonald, rhp, Inland Empire. After his first two starts of the season, McDonald's ERA was 16.87 but there's been a dramatic turnaround since then. He started two games last week; in his first on April 30 against Modesto, he allowed just two hits and one run in five innings but that lone tally cost him a decision.

On May 5 against Rancho Cucamonga, he went six innings, giving up just three hits and a run to gain his first victory. Over that 11-inning stretch, he walked just three while striking out 13.

Those two excellent efforts brings his season's record to 1-3 and his ERA down to 4.30. He's pitched 29.1 innings in which he's struck out 36 while walking only 10. Opponents are hitting only .215 against him.
