Abreu and Hu Lead Minor League Charts

After approximately six weeks of the 2007 minor league season, Chin-Lung Hu and Tony Abreu are the prominent names on or near the top of a number of hitting categories. Although Abreu and Hu may sound like a vaudeville act, the truth is the pair have combined for 92 hits between them. Both players came into spring camp bigger and stronger and their off-season work paid off.

Using statistics after May 8th games, Hu is the leading hitter at .372 and Abreu is third at .354. Abreu is second in on-base percentage, Hu fourth, Abreu leads the franchise in runs scored; Hu leads in doubles and so it goes throughout the listings.

Lucas May is the leading power source, ranking high on the slugging and on base plus slugging (OPS) lists while leading the pack with eight home runs and 31 runs batted in.

Young Clayton Kershaw stands out in the pitching department, topping all starters with a 1.42 earned run average, 43 strikeouts and 12.81 strikeouts per nine innings. He is also second in hits allowed and third on the WHIP (walks, hits per inning).

Greg Miller, who admittedly is suffering control problems still it the leader allowing only 4.68 hits per nine innings and Joe Mays is the most reluctant to walk an opponent, allowing only 1.79 bases on balls per nine. James McDonald is the WHIP leader at 1.13 among starters and Tim Hamulak tops the relief list with an 0.76 mark.

On the relief side of the books, Brent Leach's 0.48 earned run average edges Francisco Felix's equally miniscule earned run average of 0.91. Cory Wade's five wins tops the list and Ramon Troncoso has six saves.

Garrett White is striking out opposing batters at a 15.41 per nine innings rate and Tim Hamulak averages just one walk per nine innings.
