Miguel Pinango picks up first win for Vegas

Las Vegas called Miguel Pinango up from Class A to start against New Orleans and he delivered five shutout innings as the 51s won 3-0. Inland Empire rallied twice to stop Visalia 10-7 and Great Lakes scored three in the eighth to top Michigan 3-0. Jacksonville was rained out in the first inning at Mobile.

Miguel Pinango (1-0), who just arrived from Inland Empire, tossed five scoreless innings in his Triple-A debut as Las Vegas blanked visiting New Orleans, 3-0, allowing four hits and adding five strikeouts. The former Mets farmhand was picked up by the Dodgers as a free agent.

Matt White took over in the sixth, and along with Eric Hull combined for two scoreless innings, Yhency Brazoban allowed a run while pitching the final two innings to pick up his first save.

With two out in the second, Matt Kemp and Mitch Jones doubled to put the 51s in front 1-0. The game stayed that close until the sixth when Jones walked and DY Young reached base on an error. Luis Maza drove Jones in with a sac fly.

Maza added the third Las Vegas run in the eighth when he singled, moved to third on catcher Kelly Stinnett's single and scored on Larry Bigbie's one-base rap to right field.

Sergio Garcia went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, boosting his average to .319.

Jacksonville-- The Suns game with Mobile was suspended in the top of the first inning with Jacksonville leading 1-0. The game will be resumed today (Sunday).

Sixers Outlast Visalia-- Inland Empire fell behind 4-1 after taking a first inning lead, then rallied to put a pair of fours on the board in the sixth and eighth inning to earn a 10-7 win.

Second baseman Travis Denker put the 66ers on the board in the second with his second homer of the season. Visalia scored three in the third and one in the fourth and fifth, off starter Cory Wade and Kyle Wilson.

Pinch-hitter Michael Rivera doubled in a pair of runs in the sixth before Denker's RBI single. After singles by James Tomlin and Shane Justis, Ivan De Jesus walked to force in the lead run.

Visalia went back ahead in the seventh 7-5 but again Inland Empire put a four on the board, this time in the eighth.

Russell Mitchell doubled, Denker and Tomlin singled to knock in Mitchell. De Jesus doubled in two to put the Sixers up for good and Jamie Hoffman added an insurance run with another single. An error gave Inland Empire their 10th run in the ninth inning.

Denker went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI and Tomlin and Justis added a pair of hits each.

Jacobo Meque (1-0), the fourth 66er pitcher, got the last two outs in the seventh to pick up the win and Ramon Troncoso retired the final five batters for his seventh save.

Loons on a Roll-- Great Lakes enjoyed their come-from-behind win Friday night so much they did it again Saturday, scoring three runs in the eighth to erase a 2-0 Michigan lead and win 3-2.

Second baseman Adolfo Gonzalez singled to center to drive in Hunt with the tying run in the eighth and catcher Carlos Santana singled in the game winner.

Center fielder Trayvon Robinson doubled to open the eighth and left fielder Bridger Hunt dropped a single into short center. Shortstop Francisco Lizarraga drove in Robinson with a single to deep short to make it 2-1.

After designated hitter Preston Mattingly and first baseman Eduardo Perez struck out, Gonzalez and Santana each came up with a big hit.

Starter Cody White (2-3) allowed two runs on just four hits in seven innings to earn the win. Jesus Rodriguez held the Whitecaps scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings and collected his third save.

The Loons out-hit Michigan 12-6, with Hunt, Lizzaraga, Robinson and Scott Van Slyke each adding two hits to the Loons' total.

The win boosts the Loons' record to 15-20 and the teams will meet again this afternoon in the second of a four-game series with Clayton Kershaw (3-0) pitching against Whitecaps righthander Jonah Nickerson.
