Players of the Week- Young, Guerra

Each week LAdugout.com salutes a position player and pitcher from the Dodger organization for outstanding achievements. The players are currently chosen from those with Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Inland Empire and Great Lakes. This week's winners:




Delwyn Young, of, Las Vegas Although a lot of the punch in the middle of the Las Vegas batting order has been lost recently, the 51's still have DY. and he's been red hot. In his past 39 at-bats he's collected 16 hits and included in those three doubles, a triple and two home runs. That's been good for nine runs batted in.

For the season, Young is batting .313 with 10 home runs and 47 RBI.

Pitcher

Javy Guerra, rhp, Inland Empire. The 66ers staged a strong surge that carried them into a tie with Lancaster for the first half South Division title in the California League and Guerra was instrumental in two of those victories. On June 11 he threw six innings against Bakersfield in which he gave up only one hit and two unearned runs. He walked four and struck out six in that span. Then, on June 16, he came in to close a vital game against Lancaster. In two and one third innings, he allowed two hits and no runs while striking out four to pick up his first-ever save. For than span, then, he went 8.2 innings, yielding three hits, no earned runs, walking four and striking out 10.

On the season Guerra is 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA. He's struck out 64 batters in 62 innings and has held opposing batters to a .237 mark.
