Player, Pitcher of the Week- DeWitt, Coleman

Each week, LAdugout.com salutes a player and pitcher from the Dodger organization for outstanding accomplishments. The players are being selected from those at Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Inland Empire, Great Lakes, Ogden and the Gulf Coast Dodgers.

This weeks winners are:

Player-- Blake DeWitt, 3b, Inland Empire. They've been waiting for DeWitt to start getting with it at the plate in the manner they feel he's capable of and lately he's been doing all of that. He's currently riding a nine-game hitting streak and in his last 26 at-bats, he's lined 13 hits- a neat .500 clip. During that time he had five doubles. All this brought DeWitt's average for the season up to .294 with seven home runs and 34 runs batted in.
>
Pitcher-- Paul Coleman, lhp, Ogden. Last season, Coleman was used in relief at Ogden. This year he's heading the rotation and has gotten off to a most proficient start. On opening night June 19 he went five shutout innings against Orem, holding the Owlz to just two hits, walking only one while striking out four to gain the victory. Sunday against Casper, he worked seven innings, again, allowing just two hits and a run. He walked one while striking out 10. So, in his two starts the former Pepperdine standout has pitched 12 innings in which the opposition has only four hits and a run. He's walked only two while striking out 14 and has a 2-0 record and an ERA of 0.75.
