Southern League All-Stars Named

Four members of the Jacksonville Suns will be participating in the Southern League All-Star game to be played in Pearl, Miss., July 9. However, the most logical member of the Suns won't be there.

Shortstop Chin-Lung Hu was named to the team but because he's already been selected to the Futures Game, which is scheduled for San Francisco July 8, he'll pass. He's currently leading the Suns in hitting with a .326 mark that includes 26 doubles. Third baseman Marshall McDougall was also named to the team but won't be there either because he's up with Las Vegas now.

The Suns will still have solid representation with four players invited - pitchers Eric Cyr and Jon Meloan along with infielder Juan Gonzalez and outfielder Xavier Paul.

Cyr, a lefthander signed over the winter as a minor league free agent, has been the strongest starter on the Suns staff all season. He's currently 6-2 with a 2.94 earned run average. Meloan was made a closer this season and he's been that and more with a 5-2 record, a 2.17 ERA and 13 saves.

Gonzalez is another brought in via minor league free agency who's turned out well. Taking over at second base when Luis Maza went up to Las Vegas, he's currently hitting .284 with four homers and 23 RBI. Paul, promoted from Vero Beach where he played last season, is hitting .274 with eight homers and 37 RBI.
