Top Prospect Review #3

On this Fourth of July, it's time to have our third check on how the top prospects as rated at the start of the season are faring.

1- Clayton Kershaw, lhp, Great Lakes. He finally proved his mortality with a subpar start. Othwerwise, he's been everything they hoped for. 7-3, 2.24 ith 98 strikeouts in 70 innings. Opponents are managing to hit only .189 against him.

2- Matt Kemp, of, Los Angeles. Maybe they don't have to go outside the organization for that power bat. He's hitting .403-3-13 since his callup.

3- Scott Elbert, lhp. Out for the season after surgery.

4- James Loney, 1b, Los Angeles. Is is safe to say that his days in the minors are over at last? He's at .383-3-15 since his recall.

5- Andy LaRoche, 3b, Las Vegas. His bat seems to be stirring at last. .265-4-14.

6- Hong-Chih Kuo, lhp, Los Angeles. Back on the DL with elbow woes.

7- Blake DeWitt, 3b, Inland Empire. Another whose bat has emerged from hibernation. .302-8-46. Also has 26 doubles.

8- Greg Miller, lhp, Jacksonville. Has he finally started to conquer his control demons? Has a 7.27 ERA with nine walks and 10 strikeouts in 8.2 innings since being dropped back.

9- Ivan DeJesus, ss, Inland Empire. One more who is starting to get with it. .267-1-25.

10- Tony Abreu, 3b, Los Angeles. Has dropped off the pace lately. Currently .287-1-9.

11- Delwyn Young, of Las Vegas. Is there a hotter hitter in the minors? .337-13-66 with a league-leading 34 doubles.

12- Jon Meloan, rhp, Jacksonville. Keeps closing in style. 5-2, 2.06 with 16 saves. Has fanned 60 in 39.1 innings. Opponents hitting only .156.

13- Josh Bell, 3b, Great Lakes. Has cooled a bit lately. .279-9-42.

14- Justin Orenduff, rhp, Jacksonville. Has been steady. 4-2, 3.77.

15- Bryan Morris, rhp. Continues to rehab well.

Plus a couple of hitters on the rise:

Xavier Paul, of Jacksonville. Having a solid season. .293-8-40. Also has 16 steals.

Eduardo Perez, 1b, Great Lakes. Has been steady Eddie for the Loons. .319-8-39.
