Win One, Lose One, One Rained Out

In an extremely abbreviated schedule to to various all-star games, the Gulf Coast Dodgers lost their second in a row, this time 6-4 to the Mets, and the Dominican Dodgers continued to roll, smacking the Blue Jays #2 team 6-2 behind Gari and Pedro Tavarez.

Mets Bump Dodgers-- It was supposed to be a makeup doubleheader but once again the weather prevented that from happening as they managed to complete only one game- one in which the Mets handed the Gulf Coast Dodgers their second setback in a row, 6-4.

The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the second game and were batting in the second inning when a thunderstorm rolled into the area bringing lightning strikes that prompted the umpires to end the proceedings at that point.

In the game that was completed the Mets had two three-run innings- scoring their first off Daigaro Rondon (1-1) and the second trio off Ramon Paredes to hold back LA's charge. The loss left the Dodgers with a 12-3 record, three-and-one half games ahead of the Marlins who have been chipping away at the lead lately.

The Dodgers didn't score until Lyndon Poole drove in a run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly. They then rallied for three in the fifth with the first counting on a wild pitch and consecutive doubles by Keyter Collado and Johan Garcia accounting for the others.

Garcia was the only Dodger with two hits. The game also marked the mound debut of Jesus Gomez as the erstwhile first baseman threw a perfect seventh.

When the second game is finally completed, it will feature a Dodger triple play. In the top of the second, runners on first and second were moving on a strikeout. Catcher John Martin ran toward the runner who had left second. He bolted for third and Martin threw to Pedro Baez who made the tag, then fired a throw to second which nipped the runner sliding in there.

That won't be official, though, until the game is. --Bill Shelley.

Dos Tavarez Key Win-- The Dominican Dodgers relied on two guys named Tavarez to take care of the Blue Jays 6-2 Tuesday and retain their one-game division lead over the Red Sox.

Righthander Gari Taverez (4-2) dominated for five shuout innings in which he yielded only two hits, walked two and struck out five. Meanwhile, the other Tavarez - Catcher Pedro (they're not brothers)- led off the second inning with a home run, his second.

Pedro Guerrero followed with another shot out of the park, his first, and the Dodgers were rolling. Before, the inning was over, Ramon Jean singled in another run.

Marlon Urriloa followed Gari with two more scoreless innings before the Jays jumped on Jhan Carlos Lopez for two runs. Raul Rivas turned the Jays away in the final inning and two-thirds for his second save. lowering his ERA to 0.50 in the process.

Both Pedros- Taverez and Guerrero - added a single later while Adrian Aviles and Charlie Mirabal also had two hits for the Dodgers, now 22-11. The Red Sox at 20-11 stay close behind. --Bill Shelley.
