Dominican Dodgers Edge Jays-- The Dominican Dodgers used a first-inning outburst and enough pitching to squeeze past the Blue Jays 5-4 to maintain their hold on second place in their division. The win gave the Dodgers a 28-19 record, five games back of the Giants and one-half game ahead of the third-place Royals.

Ramon Jean tripled following a Pedro Guerrero single for the initial Dodger run in the four-run first. A sacrifice fly brought Jean home and Jay errors combined with hits by Jose Sanchez and Jerry Castillo accounted for the other two.

What proved to be the winning margin was scored in the fourth when Rafael Ynoa singled following a Castillo double.

That gave the victory to Marlon Urriola (3-3) despite the fact that he gave up two runs in the three innings he pitched. Starter Edisaul Pimentel went four, allowing only two hits and two unearned runs. Raul Rivas kept the Jays at bay in the final two for his third save.

Guerrero collected three hits while both Castillo and Ynoa had two. --Bill Shelley.
