Cyr, Mitchell Players of the Week

Each week salutes a player and pitcher from the Dodger organization for outstanding accomplishments. They are chosen from those with Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Inland Empire, Great Lakes, Ogden, the Gulf Coast Dodgers and the Dominican Summer League Dodgers. This week's winners:

Player Russell Mitchell-- For the season Mitchell is hitting .271 with 15 homers and 51 runs batted in. Mitchell was moved across the diamond from first base to his original position at third this past week and maybe it's just a coincidence but he's been pounding the ball since then.

This past week he collected 13 hits in 29 at-bats, driving in a dozen runs in just six games. He included two home runs in his barrage.

Pitcher Eric Cyr-- Cyr is a 28-year-old lefthander that had made it to the big leagues with the Padres but had fallen all the way to independent ball when the Dodgers rescued him.

He's been very good for them, moving from Jacksonville to Las Vegas where, in his last start, he threw six shutout innings against Albuquerque in which he allowed only two hits, striking out eight while walking two. That followed five innings against Tacoma Aug. 21 in which he held them to three hits and one run.

Since joining the 51's, Cyr is 2-1 with a 4.43 ERA. He's held opposing hitters to a .205 mark and has fanned 27 batters in 20.1 innings.
