The Giants selected Denker from a list of possibles given to them when the Dodgers obtained Mark Sweeney as the "player to be named  later" to complete the deal.

Denker was hitting .294 for Inland Empire with 10 home runs and 57 RBI. He began the year on the disabled list with a broken hand but has done good hitting since beging activated.

Although only 5-9, 193,  the 21-year-old  Denker has always been able to generate good pop since being drafted in the 21st round in 2003. In 2005 he slammed 23 home runs while playing for Columbus.
