Eight Players, Coach Set for Arizona League

The Dodgers have assigned eight players- all but one from the Jacksonville roster- to play for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League.

The league in which all major league teams send some of their top prospects to play for co-op eams will open Oct., 9 ands play a six-week schedule with the championship game slated for Nov. 17.

The Dodgers will send five pitchers and three position players to the Javelinas. In addition, Garey Ingram, who is the batting coach at Great Lakes, will serve in a similar capacity for Peoria.

Righthanders Zach Hammes, Justin Orenduff and lefthanders Greg Miller and Wesley Wright will be regular members of the Javelina staff. Righthander Cory Wade will be part of the "taxi squad", which can participate only in games on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Position players named for the team are third baseman Blake DeWitt, shortstop Ivan DeJesus, Jr., and outfielder Xavier Paul. DeJesus has played in the Puerto Rico Winter League the past two seasons but that league will probably fold thus prompting this assignment.
