Jacksonville Nominated For Two Major Awards

The relationship between the Dodgers and the Jacksonville Suns has been a beneficial one for both sides. Now, the Suns are to be the Southern League's candidate for two important annual awards, a direct result of that relationship.

The league has nominated the Suns for the John H. Johnson award and the Larry MacPhail award. The Johnson trophy is given each year to the team that best exemplifies the highest standards of a baseball franchise. The MacPhail honor goes to the club that has outstanding promotional work.

Each league is allowed to nominate one franchise for the honors with the general managers of the cubs doing the selecting. The ultimate winner will be decided by a panel with the awards to be announced and presented at the winter meetings. This is the second straight year that the Suns have been nominated for the Johnson award.

The Dodgers have always provided the franchise with a winning team since becoming associated with it. In a city which has an NFL franchise, the fans have still supported this AA team, which has set several attendance records and once again lead the league in that department, drawing 396, 012 while winning 80 games this past season.
