Fall, Winter Report

This is the latest in a series of reports on what Dodgers are doing in the various fall and winter leagues. Those include the Arizona Fall, Hawaii Winter, Mexican Pacific, Dominican and Venezuelan leagues.

ARIZONA FALL-- It hasn't been a splendid fall for Greg Miller. Until lately, while he has given up a number of hits, he had good control Unfortunately in his last start, Nov. 12, his old problem returned. In two innings, he walked six, didn't strike out any, was touched for five hits and four runs. For the season, Greg is now 0-3, 17.79. He's given up 22 hits and has walked 16 in 17.2 innings. He's struck out 15.

Other Dodger pitchers with the Peoria Saguaros (10-19) are Justin Orenduff (0-1, 3.00), Wesley Wright (0-1, 5.79) and Zach Hammes (0-1, 7.30). The best job is being done by Cory Wade, who's used only parttime. He' has a 1.93 ERA and has struck out nine batters in the 9.1 innings he's gone while walking only one.

Among the batters, Blake DeWitt has a .326 average although he hasn't homered. Xavier Paul has pushed his mark up to .247, also without a home run.

HAWAII WINTER-- Both Ryan Rogowski and Josh Bell started hitting the long ball recently. Both have three home runs now with Rogowski batting .243 (and stealing six bases) while Bell is batting just .215. Russ Mitchell is hitting .286 , also with three home runs. Jamie Hoffmann is hitting .247 and Kenley Jansen is down at .193. Neither has homered.

Steve Johnson continues to lead the West Oahu (11-20) pitchers with a 2-2, 2.36 record. He has struck out 21 while walking only three in 26.2 innings. Kyle Wilson is 0-3, 9.72 and Garrett White is 0-1, 7.88.

MEXICAN PACIFIC-- Fernando Valenzuela is getting in some exercise by pitching but an 8.10 ERA shows the old Fernando is not the Fernando of old. On the other hand, Jesus Rodriguez, a reliever turned starter, is 3-0, 2.03. Francisco Felix has dropped one decision but has a 1.06 ERA and has fanned 24 in 13 innings. Mauricio Tequida has a 1.77 ERA, a win and three saves. Thomas Melgarejo is 0-1, 3.38. Jesus Castillo has started pitching and has a 2.08 ERA after 4.1 innings.

Among the batters, Gabe Gutierrez has also gottten into action and has gone 2-for-3. John Lindsey has moved his average up to .282 but is stuck on three homers. Sergio Garcia is hitting just .205 with one.

DOMINICAN-- Only a couple of Dodgers are currently seeing service here. Marlon Arias has thrown only two innings and has yielded two runs. Ramon Troncoso is 0-1, having been bashed for five hits and four runs in 1.2 innings.

VENEZULA-- Another Dodgers starting to get some playing time is Juan Apodaca who has gone 2-for 6. Eddie Perez is only managing a .167 mark, though. Juan Gonzalez is hitting .214.

Pitchers include Joey Norrito (2-1, 2.88), Miguel Pinango (0-1, 3.86), Jonathan Figueroa (1-0, 3.86) and Alberto Bastardo (0-1, 4.97).
