LaRoche Stays Hot With Bat

The way Andy LaRoche is hitting these days, he isn't just leading Team USA- he's picking them up and carrying them ever onward in World Cup play.

LaRoche's latest heroics with the American squad carried them past a surprisingly stubborn South Africa 4-2 and, in the process, took them into the quarter-finals of the event being played in Taiwan.

LaRoche had three hits and the same number of runs batted in which means so far in the tournament he's 9-for-21 including four doubles and two home runs plus three walks.

His first opportunity against South Africa, a team that hadn't won a game in this event, came in the first inning when he doubled in a run. He came up again in the next inning and plated another with a sacrifice fly. His third RBI was the result of his third hit as he singled in the fourth to give the United States a 4-1 lead.

LaRoche's torrid hitting is in sharp contrast to fellow Dodger Delwyn Young, who has cooled down. Despite hitting a game-winning home run earlier, Young is now just 2-for-19.
