Young Helps Team USA Get Top Seed

Delwyn Young broke out of his slump and Andy LaRoche's big bat kept booming but it was former Dodger Justin Ruggiano who supplied most of the noise as Team USA got past Taiwan 10-7 in World Cup play Wednesday. And that victory was a key one for the Americans.

With the victory, Team USA finished first-round play with a 6-1 record, handed Taiwan its second defeat and in the process earned the top seed out of Pool A into the quarter-finals of the event being played in Taiwan. The US squad will play South Korea, fourth-seeded out of Pool B, in the quarter-finals next.

Young broke a 2-for-19 drought with two hits including a double that plated a run in the fourth inning. He also added a walk to his day's work. LaRoche doubled in a pair in the fifth while Ruggiano had a huge day, going 3-for-4 including two home runs, good for five RBI.

Another former Dodger, Chin-Feng Chen, doubled in Taiwan's first run in the opening inning.
