Young, LaRoche Help Team USA Win World Cup

Certain matters in sports you can just take for granted. Like in college football; Notrre Dame will always have a winning team. Or in international baseball; Cuba will always win the big ones like the World Cup.

Oops, that's right. The Irish have fallen upon evil times. Well, guess what? Cuba didn't win the World Cup in baseball, either.

No, it was Team USA 6, Cuba 3, in the championship game which means the US has the gold for the first time since 1974 and the Cubans had to settle for the silver after winning the title 25 times previously.

Both Dodger members contributed as Andy LaRoche and Delwyn Young each had two hits in the final game. For LaRoche, that gave him a team-high 11 for the tournament played in Taiwan including three home runs.

One of Young's rips was a seventh-inning double that followed a single by Evan Longoria. That sent Longoria to third from which he scored as former Dodger Justin Ruggiano blooped a single. Young, however, was thrown out at the plate while trying to score on the same play.

That didn't matter though as the Americans had enough runs to cruise through to the finish.
