Fall, Winter Leagues Report #1

This is the latest report in a series on how Dodger players are performing in the various fall and winter leagues. Those leagues include the Arizona Fall, Hawaii Winter, Mexican Pacific, Dominican and Venezuelan.

ARIZONA FALL- League play has concluded with the Peoria Saguaros, the team to which Dodger players were assigned, finishing far out of the running with a 10-22 mark.

Perhaps the biggest assignment for the Dodgers was that of lefthander Greg Miller, but it didn't go well for him, either. He failed to find the strike zone consistently and when he did, he was hit hard. He worked 12.2 innings in which he gave up 23 hits and 16 walks, finishing 0-3, 12.79.

Other Dodger pitchers didn't do all that well, either. Wesley Wright was 0-1, 5.06, Justin Orenduff, 0-1, 4.41; and Zach Hammes, 0-1, 6.43. Only Cory Wade prospered with a 0-0, 1.74 record.

Despite a late slump, Blake DeWitt led the hitters with a .281 average although he didn't homer. Chin-lung Hu, who left early, finished at .273 with one homer while Xavier Paul hit .243 without a home run.

HAWAII WINTER- Another league that has ended play with the West Oahu CaneFires also a club that trailed throughout, winding up with a 13-24 mark.

Third baseman Josh Bell earned praise for his long ball potential although he averaged only .213 with three homers. Russ Mitchell and Ryan Rogowski also had three homers apiece, Mitchell hitting .270 and Rogowski, .237. Jamie Hoffmann came on well at the end to finish at .278 without a homer. Kenley Jansen hit only .206 with no homers.

Righthander Steve Johnson did very well on the mound with a 2-2, 2.05 record. The other Dodger pitchers were down, though, with Kyle Wilson going 0-3, 7.84 and Garrett White, 0-1, 7.88.

VENEZUELA-- Two Dodger hitters have been benched with Juan Gonzalez batting only .214 and Eddie Perez hitting just .167. Juan Apodaca has played little but sports a .385 average.
