Dodgers Sign Outfielder Bobby Malek

Malek was a fourth-round draft choice of the New York Mets in 2002 out of Michigan State University. More of a line drive hitter who depends upon speed than a power guy, he rose to play Triple A briefly in 2006 befoee being dropped by the Mets.

This past season was a solid one for him with Bridgeport where he hit .280 with 19 stolen bases. He also was named the Most Valuable Player in the Atlantic League All-Star game.

Malek, who bats from the left side , is 26 years old. He 's 6-3, 205 and will probably be competing for a job either at Las Vegas or Jacksonville.
