The renaissance of Dominican baseball for the Dodgers begun by Ralph Avila and carried on by Logan White and Elvio Jimenez was particularly noteworthy when it comes to pitching for the team was able to come up with some extremely likely looking kids in this area.

Frias is perhaps the most promising of all those and there's a lot to like about him. He throws with an easy, loose motion, delivers a fast ball in the 88-93 mph range that has natural sink to it plus a slider with good, late-breaking action. He's more of a groundball pitcher at this stage but he should be adding heft and even more smoke to his pitches as he fills out. At age 17 (he turned 18 in November) he pitched with poise.

All this resulted in a 6-2 record for the Dominican Dodgers with a 1.81 ERA. He looks to have a high ceiling and could move up quickly. There are others from down there who could join him, most notably lefthander Geison Aguasviva.

Frias should pitch in the USA in 2008, most probably for the Gulf Coast Dodgers
