Gallagher's Two Hits Ignite 66ers Win

The battery of Miguel Pinango (4th win) and catcher René Rivera (three hits) helped Las Vegas win their ninth game in the last ll, 5-4 over Salt Lake. Inland Empire collected only three hits but bunched two of them in a four-run eighth to beat Bakersfield 4-2. Daniel Tamarez six scoreless innings boosted the DSL Dodgers to a 5-0 win over the Marlins. Jacksonville and Great Lakes had the day off.

Pinango Helps 51s Stay Hot
The 51s trailed after one inning but they took the lead in the fifth for good and held on to stop Salt Lake 5-4. Miguel Pinango (4-4) got the win, allowing three runs on nine hits. Ramon Troncoso allowed a run in the ninth before Tanyon Sturtze retired the final two Bees for his first save.

Down 1-0, Sergio Garcia doubled and scored on an error to tie the game in the third. After the Bees went up 2-1, Las Vegas used a home run (#5) by Terry Tiffee with Xavier Paul on base with a single to take a 3-2 lead.

In the fifth, after Salt Lake had tied the game yet again, a René Rivera double and an error on an attempted pickup gave the 51s a lead they never let get away.

Wilkin Ruan's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning scored John-Ford Griffin with an important insurance run.

Rivera went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Xavier Paul went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Las Vegas (40-32).

The 51s took four of five games in their series against Salt Lake and have now won nine of their last 11 games.

Sun Spots-- Nomar Garciaparra will join Las Vegas on a rehab assignment when the 51s open a four-game series against Seattle. RHP Jason Johnson, who leads the PCL with nine wins, goes against Chris Jakubauskas. ...Terry Tiffee continues to lead the league with a .414 average. ...The 51s are 2 1/2 games behind Sacramento in the Southern Division.

66ers Strike in 8th
Inland Empire, held to one hit and trailing 2-0 in the eighth inning, dropped the hammer on Bakersfield, scoring four runs to collect a 4-2 win in the first game of the second half of the California League.

Austin Gallagher doubled in the second inning and the 66ers were held hitless until the eighth inning when Gallagher launched another double to lead off the inning. A wild pitch moved him to third and Tommy Giles' double made it 2-1.

Jaime Pedroza walked and on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Fuller, both runners scored when the pitcher threw the ball away. Ryan Rogowski's sacrifice fly made it 4-2.

Jesus Rodriguez drew the start and allowed only four hits and a pair of runs -- one earned -- in five innings. Javy Guerra (1-1) added three scoreless innings in relief and earned the win after the four-run explosion. Jacobo Meque worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth to save his seventh game.

Out-hit 8-3, Inland Empire was led by Gallagher's two doubles.

Dodgers Rids Tamares Pitching
Daniel Tamares (2-1) worked six scoreless innings and allowed only three hits while pitching the DSL Dodges to a 5-0 win over the Marlins. Joady Nunez added a pair of zeros before Leonel Beras preserved the shutout with a scoreless ninth.

The Dodgers did all there scoring early. Adrian Aviles singled in the first and, helped by an error, scored on Pedro Tavarez's single. A pair of errors and Aviles single made it 2-0 after two.

Three runs rolled across in the fourth inning on Rafael Aybar's single, and Yorniel Martinez's two RBI hit.

Aviles was 3-for-3 on the afternoon and boosted his average to .368. Martinez added two hits and a pair of RBI.
