DSL Dodgers Outslugged the Nationals Saturday

The Ogden Raptors slipped to 0-6 on the season after an 9-4 loss to Orem, the only team they have faced so far this season. The GCL and DSL Dodgers had Sunday off but the Coasties dumped the Nationals on Saturday.

Good News For 0-6 Raptors
There was good news for Ogden, despite the fact that they fell to 0-6 on the season after an 8-4 loss to Orem. They won't have to face the Owlz for a while.

The Angeles farm team in the Pioneer League has feasted on the young Raptors, who are understaffed due to the fact that signing recent draftees has been unusually slow.

This game wasn't as lop-sided as the final score would indicate. Ogden and Orem were tied 3-3 after five and the Raptors trailed 5-3 into the last of the eighth before three runs put the game out of reach.

Ogden didn't help their cause by making three more errors but Orem had 12 hits off three Raptor pitchers.

With two out in the first, Kyle Russell singled and Kyle Orr slugged his first homer of the season over the right-field wall for a 2-0 Ogden lead. A fielding error helped Orem tie the game in the bottom of the inning and a wild pitch and another error put them up 3-2 after three.

Clay Calfee tied the game with his second homer to lead off the fourth inning and Gabriel Casanova made it a three-home run day with his first blast in the ninth inning, but in between Oren scored five unanswered runs.

Geison Aguasviva (0-1) started and was tagged for nine hits and five runs, four earned, before leaving with one out in the sixth. Brandon Tuten held the line through the seventh but Orem scored three off Javier Solano in the eighth to put the game away.

Russell, Calfee and Steve Caseres, the Dodgers #9 pick from James Madison, each had a pair of hits.

DSL Dodgers Post Saturday Win
We erroneously posted a rainout for the Gulf Coast League Dodgers on Saturday when they actually won a 15-9 decision over the Nationals.

The slugfest featured each team scoring seven times in the seventh inning, with the Nationals tying the game only to have the Dodgers quickly untie it.

The big inning was keyed by a pinch-hit, grand slam home run by infielder Ramon Jean in his first at-bat of the young season. Kevin Howard knocked in three with a double and a single and Gerald Sands smacked his second home run in three games, added a single and two RBI.

Starter Andres Santiago was on his way to the win, having allowed two runs before leaving after six with a seemingly safe 9-2 lead. However, the Nationals fell on Danny Danielson for four runs before he left without getting the second out in the inning.

Fredy Quintero (1-0) closed out the inning after allowing three more runs, then worked a scoreless eighth to get credit for the win. Luis Ferreres added a scoreless ninth.
