Baez's Homer Sparks Raptor's Win

Ogden rolled up 10 runs in the seventh and eighth to drop Casper 12-4, keyed by Pedro Baez's homer, the Gulf Coast Dodgers rode three hits by Chris Jacobs to nearly match the Raptor total while thumping the Marlins 10-3 and the DSL Dodgers lost to the Yankees 8-2.

Raptor's Rolling, Top Casper 12-4
Maybe you can kill a ghost but for the second night in a row the Ogden Raptors beat one up pretty well, scoring 10 runs in their final two innings to win 12-4.

Pedro Baez made a pair of errors earlier in the game but he slugged a three-run homer in a six-run seventh that erased a 4-2 Casper lead.

"Baez has definitely turned it on for us. We knew he would come through. He is a great player and he is showing that right now," Ogden first baseman Kyle Orr told the Ogden Standard Examiner. "He definitely redeemed himself."

The Raptors, who have won four of their last five games, added four four more in the eighth, helped by Orr's third homer of the year.

The 6-foot-2 Baez has been outstanding, Ogden manager Mike Brumley said. "He had a couple of plays he would have liked to have made, but had good concentration when it mattered. That is what it takes for those young players."

Geison Aguasviva started for Ogden and worked six innings, allowing four runs but only two of them were earned. Cal Stanke (1-1) added a pair of scoreless innings and was credited with the win after the big seventh and eighth inning rallies.

Steve Smith pitched a scoreless ninth in his first action since being called up from the Gulf Coast League. The pitching staff stranded 13 Ghosts on the bases.

Gabriel Casanova finished 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI; Orr went 2-for-4 with a double and a 2-run homer. Kyle Russell added two runs batted in on sacrifice flys.

"We are playing with the same spirit when we had when we were 0-8," Brumley said. "But now they are getting comfortable with their surroundings, starting to play a little bit better. It was just a tough start for us."

The Raptors hosts Casper tonight before traveling to Wyoming to continue the series.
