Sands Homers to Help Coasties Boost Lead

Casper romped 12-2 over Ogden and the Gulf Coast Dodgers banged out 14 hits to overcome the Mets 12-4 and boost their lead to 3.5 games. The Dominican Dodgers made six errors that allowed three unearned runs in a 4-3 loss to the Rays

Casper batters Raptors
The Casper team looked very unghostly, spanking four Raptor pitchers for 12 runs and 18 hits to ring up an easy 12-2 win.

Ogden managed only five hits, using three of them in the sixth inning to record their only two runs. Lyndon Pool lead off with a triple over the head of the center fielder and Devaris Gordon singled him in. Joe Becker added a single and Gordon scored on a round ball by Pedro Baez.

Ogden didn't get another hit the rest of the night.

Eric Thompson started and allowed seven hits and five runs, four earned, to take the loss. Jordan Roberts coughed up five runs in the fifth, Steve Smith was tagged for two more in the sixth and only Jon Runnels, 29th pick in the 2008 draft, escaped damage, working a scoreless eighth.

The teams meet again tonight and Sunday before Ogden returns home for an eight-game homestand starting Tuesday night at Lindquist Field.

Seven-Run Fifth Sinks Mets
The Gulf Coast Dodgers put their game on ice with a seven-run explosion in the fifth inning.

Edwin Contreras (2-0) was the beneficiary of the big inning, although he led 5-3 before the explosion. Roberto Feliciano, Jacob Carter and Fredy Quintero combined to allow the Mets only a pair of hits and an unearned run over the final four innings.

Gerald Sands smacked his third home run of the young season, added a single and a double and knocked in a pair of runs. Rafael Ynoa doubled and singled twice and Pedro Guerrero and Keyter Collado chipped in with two hits each.

The win gave the Coasties a 10-2 record and boosted their margin to 3 1/2 games over the Nationals.

Late Rally Edges DSL Dodgers
The Dominican Dodgers took a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning but, helped by six errors, handed the game to the Rays 4-3. Only one of the four runs was earned.

Ruddy De La Rosa started and left after four innings leading 2-0. Leonel Beras was tagged with an unearned run in the sixth, Geraldo Martinez with two unearned runs in the seventh to tie the game and Rogelito Chery (2-1) gave up the only "earned" run of the game when reliever Jose Dominguez bounced a wild pitch to allow one of the runners he left on base to score.

Pedro Tavarez's sac fly gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead in the first. Enily Morales doubled and Tavarez knocked him in with a single in the third and Marlon Sucre and Alexis Crispin doubled in the sixth to give the Dodgers their final lead.

Tito Franco and Morales were the only Dodgers with more than a single hit.

The Dodgers slid to 13-16 with the loss and are now in ninth place in the 12-team South Division some 6.5 games behind.
