Austin Gallagher Boosts 66ers

Angel Chavez singled in the winning run in the seventh inning and Heath Totten won his third game as Las Vegas stopped Sacramento 5-4. Inland Empire rode an 11-hit attack and a starter-by-committee program to overcome Stockton 11-6 and Great Lakes was tagged with a 7-1 loss by Peoria. Jacksonville had the day off.

Chavez's Single Tops River Cats
Angel Chavez's RBI single in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and Las Vegas beat the Sacramento River Cats 5-4 to even the series at two games each.

A.J. Ellis walked to lead off the seventh and Chin-Lung Hu's sacrifice bunt moved Ellis to second. One out later, Chavez singled to center field to bring in Ellis with the eventual winning run.

Starter Heath Totten (3-2) pitched six innings and allowed four runs, three of them earned, on eight hits to earn the win. Relievers Dwayne Pollok and Mike Koplove allowed just one baserunner over three scoreless innings to close out the victory for the 51s (53-50).

Sacramento jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second but the 51s answered with two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth. In the third, Xavier Paul had an RBI ground-rule double, and Chavez's sacrifice fly scored Hu.

John Lindsey led off the fourth with a home run and Ellis had a two-out RBI double to make it 4-3.

The 51s host the Omaha Royals tonight with RHP Justin Orenduff (2-6, 6.78 ERA) drawing the start.

Jacksonville No Games Scheduled Bats Carry Sixers to Win
Inland Empire defeated Stockton, 11-6, pounding out 13 hits, with Austin Gallagher going 3-for-3 with a walk while scoring two runs and driving in two runs. Trayvon Robinson, Bridger Hunt, and Carlos Santana each had two hits.

Scheduled starting pitcher James Adkins was promoted to Jacksonville of the Southern League, leaving the Sixers with only 24 players and short of starters.

They had used four pitchers in Sunday's 7-4 extra-inning loss so Joe Jones was pressed into the starting role and he allowed three runs in four innings. David Pfeiffer allowed the first four runners to reach base in the sixth inning but giving up only one run.

Pfeiffer (2-2) also allowed the first two runners in the seventh inning to reach base, but Brandon Tuten took over and managed to get out of the inning with only one run.

Inland Empire jumped into an early lead, scoring five in the bottom of the first on RBI hits by Carlos Santana, Austin Gallagher, a sac fly from Andrew Locke and Tommy Giles' triple.

Stockton cut that margin to 7-5 in the seventh before the 66ers added two in the seventh and eighth.

Gallagher and Tommy had RBI singles in the seventh and Trayvon Robinson's drove in a run in the eighth, then scored on Bridger Hunt's single.

Gallagher finished with three hits; Robinson, Hunt and Santana added two each.

Peoria Tops Loons 7-1
The Loons trailed 1-0 in the fourth, when Andrew Lambo connected for his 12th home run of the year to tie the score but that was the high-water mark in a 7-1 loss to Peoria.

Justin Miller (3-8), pitching in relief of Josh Lindblom, was ticketed for a pair of unearned runs in the fourth and a long, three-run home run in the sixth and took the loss.

Peoria added on one more in the eighth on a solo home run off Miguel Ramirez. Then Ramirez hit the next batter and both benches emptied and words were exchanged, but order was restored and no one was ejected.

The Loons committed a season-high five errors.

Second-round draft choice Josh Lindblom started and worked two innings in his second professional start, allowing two hits and one run.

The Loons (12-19) have an off-day today, followed by a six-game homestand at Dow Diamond, beginning with a three-game series against Clinton Wednesday. Right-hander Given Kutz (3-3, 4.76 ERA) will start for the Loons.

Garate, Tomey Promoted
Following the game, Loons' manager Juan Bustabad announced that left-hander Victor Garate and right-hander Anthony Tomey had earned promotions. Garate went to Inland Empire and Tomey earned an advancement to Jacksonville.

Garate, a key member of the Loons' rotation since making his first start May 17, was 6-3 with a 1.85 ERA. He was fourth in the Midwest League in strikeouts with 103 and held opponents to a .185 average against.

Tomey joined the Loons on July 11 after beginning the season with Double-A Erie in the Tigers' organization. In four appearances, Tomey was 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA.
