Buss' Homer in 13th Boosts Raptors

Nick Buss blasted a walk-off home run in the 13th to give Ogden a 6-4 win over Orem. The Dominican Dodgers were tagged for four runs in the seventh and lost 9-6. The Gulf Coast Dodgers did not play.

Raptors Get a Winning Buss Ride
Nick "Chili" Buss slugged his third home run of the season with a man on base in the bottom of the 13th inning to give Ogden a 6-4 win over Oren. The blast also gives the Raptors the series win.

The win moves the Raptors to 2-1 and into first place atop the South Division standings. The loss drops the Owlz to 1-2.

Buss, an 8th-round draft pick out of USC, told the Ogden Standard, "They beat us up real bad in the first half, so it was huge to win a series right here."

Sixteen Raptors had been retired in order and 24 of the previous 26 after Ogden jumped out early. Starter Geison Aguasviva held a 4-1 lead when he left after six innings.

Elian Herrera, who finished the game 3-of-5, and who had a home run in the fifth (#2), broke the hitless streak with a single in the 13th and Buss picked on a change-up and rode it over the left-field fence for the win.

. Orem had its chance at the lead in the top of the 13th when Ivan Contreras singled, stole second and third but died there as reliever Jonathan Runnels struck out the next batter to retire the side.

Raptors right fielder Travis Vetters got Ogden on the scoreboard with a three-run homer in the first inning. Ogden added another run in the fifth, on Herrera's solo shot, but the rest of the game belonged to Orem before Buss's heroics.

The Owlz scored their first run in the sixth on a homer off Aguasviva, scored another in the seventh and added two more in the eighth to tie the game.

Lefty Allen St. Clair was tagged for the three runs that tied the game but two of them were unearned. Matt Smith added three hitless and scoreless innings before Runnels (1-0) came in to added two scoreless innings and earn his first professional win.

The Raptors hit the road for a three-game series at Casper, beginning tonight, followed by another three-games at Idaho Falls.
