Ho Hum, Raptors Win Again

Ogden made it 17 of 21 and continues to lead the Pioneer League with a 10-3 second-half record after out-hitting Helena 10-7. The Gulf Coast League Dodgers blasted the second-place Nationals 15-0 to boost their first-place margin to 1 1/2 games. The Dominican Summer League Dodgers had Dominngo off

. Ogden Manager Mike Brumley has created a monster in the Pioneer League. After struggling to a 1-10 start, his young Raptors have raged through the league, scoring 75 runs in their last eight games, winning all eight of them. They topped their latest victim, Helena, 10-7.

The win was certainly not a cakewalk. Cutter Dykstra, son of former major leaguer Lenny Dykstra and a player the Dodgers were very interested in drafting, lined out three hits including a double and a three-run homer.

Raptors Tony Delmonico and Travis Vetters matched him hit for hit, Delmonico collecting three doubles and adding four runs batted in and is now hitting .361. Vetters missed a cycle by only a double and his two-run homer gave Ogden a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third inning. He also had four runs batted in and boosted his batting average to .456.

Nick Buss, hitting .350, also had three hits as did Matt Wallach, who pushed is average over the .300 mark to .304.

After Helena regained the lead 6-4, Ogden tied the game in the fourth and put the Brewers away with a four-run sixth inning.

Starter Kyle Smit worked three innings and allowed three runs before Jonathan Runnels (2-0) took over in the fourth. He pitched three more innings and was tagged with four runs but earned the win.

Marcel Prado finally calmed the Helena hitters, taking over in the seventh inning with the bases loaded and allowing up but two hits and no runs over the final three innings to record his second save.

The Raptors hope to keep on rolling tonight when they face Helena in the second game of the four-game series.
