Vetters Pounds the Ball but Ogden Loses

Ogden lost a 14-3 decsions to Missoula despite another three-hit game by Travis Vetters. The Gulf Coast Dodgers provided themsleves wiht a little breathing room by dumping the secnd place Nationals 5-3. The Domnican Dodgers coughed up four unearned runs and lost 4-3 to the Mets.

Eight-Run Inning Sinks Ogden
Missoula blew a relatively close game open with an eight-run eighth inning, handing Ogden their fourth loss in the last five games by a 14-3 margin.

With the loss, the Raptors side to 11-7 in second half action but they remain second in the South Division.

Kyle Orr put Ogden on the board 2-0 in the second inning with a two-run homer, his fifth of the season. But the lead lasted only until the Osprey batted in the bottom of the inning.

Starter Kyle Smit allowed four runs on six hits and left the game after four innings. Steve Smith restored some sense of order and the Raptors trailed 6-3 going into the last of the fateful eighth.

Jonathan Runnels took over on the mound and Missoula quickly roughed him up for six hits, including a triple and a pair of homers, and eight runs (six earned), to put the game out of reach. The first seven Osprey batters reached base and later scored.

Travis Vetters added another three-hit game to his resumé. The 6-2, 190-pound outfielder has three or more hits in seven of his last eight games and 22 hits in his last 36 times at bat for an incredible .611 streak.

He is hitting a stunning .476 overall; .516 vs lefthanders, .576 in road games, .542 in August and .618 with runners in scoring position.

Austin Young boosted his average to .305 with three singles and Brian Ruggiano added a double and a single.

Dodgers Boost GCL Lead
The Gulf Coast League Dodgers stuck the second place Nationals with a 5-3 loss and increased their lead in the East Division to 1 1/2 games with roughly two weeks left in the season.

Gorman Erickson's second homer of the year tied the game 1-1 in the fourth and Johan Garcia singled home Brian Mathews in the sixth for a brief, 2-1 lead.

The Dodgers broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the top of the eighth inning. With one out Jerry Sands reached on an error and with two out, Garcia and Lenell McGee walked to load the bases. A three-base error by the Nationals' left fielder boosted the score to 5-2.

Eduardo Perez started and allowed two hits, one of them a home run, and left after five innings tied 1-1. Roberto Fructuoso surrendered the next National's runs, one of them unearned, but collected the win, his fourth of the season against a pair of losses.

Nathan Eovaldi earned his professional save by adding a pair of scoreless innings to close out the win.

DSL Mets Top Dodgers 4-3
The Mets scored a run in the eighth to break a 3-3 tie and hand the Dominican Dodgers a tough 4-3 loss. All four Mets runs were unearned.

The Dodgers recorded more errors (5) than hits (4) in the game, but they took a 2-1 lead in the third and tied the game in the seventh.

An error and Enily Morales RBI single scored the third inning runs and a single by Rafael Aybar and an error allowed the Dodgers tying run in the seventh.

Antonio Castillo was hampered by a defense that allowed three unearned runs during his six inning start. He gave up four hits, struck out five and dropped his ERA to 1.27 but left the game trailing 3-2.

Christian Gonzalez didn't have much better luck. He allowed only three hits in three inning but two errors and a sacrifice fly provided the winning run in the eighth.

Jerry Castillo had a two of the Dodgers four hits.
