Minor League August/September Pride Awards

The Dodgers announced the August/September winners of the Dodger Pride Awards, presented by Under Armour. The Dodger Pride Awards were created by General Manager Ned Colletti, and are given on a monthly basis to the players at each level of the club's minor league system who play the game with a hustling, smart, aggressive style. The players and staff on each respective club vote for the awards.

    The winners for August/September:  

Las Vegas 51s   

Pitcher – RHP Miguel Pinango went 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA (9 ER/27.0 IP) in five starts, including a 1-0 mark and a 2.25 ERA (4 ER/16.0 IP) in his final three starts…the 25-year-old Venezuelan finished 5-9 with a 5.16 ERA in 27 games (24 starts) overall.

Player – OF Xavier Paul batted .370 (37-for-100) with seven doubles, three homers, and 14 RBI in 27 games…he hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, batting .449 (22-for-49) to raise his average to .316 from .299…the 23-year-old finished sixth in the Dodger system in hitting…Paul had 28 doubles, nine homers, 68 RBI, and 82 runs scored in 115 games…he was selected by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.  

Jacksonville Suns  

Pitcher – LHP Scott Elbert went 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA (2 ER/11.1 IP) in nine appearances, tossing scoreless relief in eight of the nine games…the Dodgers' first-round pick (17th overall) from the 2004 draft struck out 20 in his 11.1 innings of work, an average of 15.88 strikeouts per nine innings…the 23-year-old finished his minor league season with a 4-1 record and a 2.40 ERA in 25 games (one start)…he had his contract purchased by Los Angeles on August 29 for his Major League debut.

Player – INF Russell Mitchell batted .288 (30-for-104) with seven homers, 29 RBI, and 19 runs scored in 28 games…five of the homers came in a nine-game span from August 18-26…he started the month by collecting 10 RBI in his first five games…the 23-year-old finished the year batting .264 with 22 doubles, 16 homers, and 75 RBI in 133 games…the Dodgers' 15th-round selection from the 2003 draft ranked fifth in the Dodger chain in RBI.  

Inland Empire 66ers  

Pitcher – LHP Victor Garate went 3-0 with a 4.67 ERA (14 ER/27.0 IP) in five starts…he struck out 31 in his 27.0 innings…the 23-year-old went 3-0 with a 4.70 ERA in seven starts with Inland Empire, his first taste of the High-A level…he had gone 6-3 with a 1.85 ERA in 17 games (12 starts) with Single-A Great Lakes prior to his promotion.  

Player – C Esteban Lopez batted .314 (27-for-86) with eight doubles, a homer, and 12 RBI in 24 games.  

Great Lakes Loons  

Pitcher – RHP Josh Lindblom posted no record and a 1.42 ERA (3 ER/19.0 IP) in four starts…he also struck out 21 in his 19.0 innings…the 21-year-old, who was selected by Los Angeles in the second round in the 2008 draft, had no record and a 1.86 ERA in eight starts overall…the Purdue University product was promoted to Double-A Jacksonville for his final start, and he tossed 5.0 innings of two-run ball August 28 at Montgomery.  

Player – OF Jovanny Rosario batted .305 (29-for-95) with 14 RBI and 19 runs scored and 10 steals in 27 games…the 23-year-old closed out the year by leading the Dodger organization with 39 stolen bases…he batted .270 with 17 doubles, 35 RBI, and 68 runs scored in 127 games.  

Ogden Raptors  

Pitcher – LHP Michael Watt went 5-1 with a 5.18 ERA (24 ER/41.2 IP) in six starts…he earned a complete-game victory on August 23 vs. Idaho Falls, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out seven…the 19-year-old went 9-4 with a 4.35 ERA in 15 starts overall…he was selected by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2007 draft.  

Player – C Matt Wallach hit .279 (29-for-104) with nine doubles, nine home runs, 21 RBI and 22 runs scored in 27 games…he hit five homers in his final eight games…the Dodgers' 22nd-round pick from 2007 batted .283 with 17 doubles, 10 homers, and 36 RBI in 51 games overall.  

Gulf Coast League Dodgers  

Pitcher – RHP Matthew Magill went 0-2 with a save and a 5.09 ERA (10 ER/17.2 IP) in five games (three starts)…he struck out 17 in his 17.2 innings…Magill finished 1-2 with a save and a 3.34 ERA in 11 games (three starts) overall…he was selected by Los Angeles in the 31st round of the 2008 draft.  

Player – INF Garret Green batted .222 (10-for-45) with six RBI in 19 games, and was promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas to close out the season…he appeared in one game there, going 0-for-4 with an RBI…the 23-year-old, who was drafted out of San Diego State University in the 30th round this June, hit .253 with 13 RBI in 37 games overall with the GCL Dodgers.  

Dominican Summer League Dodgers  

Pitcher – LHP Antonio Castillo went 1-0 with an 0.53 ERA (1 ER/17.0 IP) in four games (three starts) to win the award for the DSL Dodgers for the third straight month…the 20-year-old went 3-1 with a 1.18 ERA in 14 games (11 starts) overall…he struck out 74 in 68.2 innings, and limited the opposition to a .160 average.

  Player – OF Marlon Sucre batted .391 (18-for-46) with 10 RBI in 13 games…the 18-year-old Panama native hit .286 with 11 doubles, two homers, 23 RBI, and 29 runs scored in 53 games overall.
