Final Vero Fantasy Camp Set

The Los Angeles Dodgers will host their 52nd and final Adult Baseball Camp in Vero Beach, Florida from November 1-7. Camps will continue in 2009 at the club's new Spring Training facility in Arizona's Cactus League.

Throughout the week, campers will receive first-hand instruction from Dodger stars of the past and use the same training fields, batting cages, and clubhouse as the current major and minor leaguers in the Dodger organization.  Daily activities include fielding and baserunning drills, batting practice, and actual games.  The action will conclude with a nightly dinner, including an awards presentation for the top performers of the day.

The Major League instructors for the camp are Tommy Davis, Carl Erskine, Rick Monday, Joe Pignatano, Jerry Reuss, Bill Russell, Maury Wills, and Steve Yeager. The Camp Director will once again be Guy Wellman, who has held that position for each of the 52 camps. The Chief Umpire for the camp will be Bruce Froemming.

Current and former Dodger minor league personnel are also serving as instructors, including Craig Bjornson, Casey Deskins, Glenn Dishman, Garey Ingram, Marty Reed, and John Shoemaker.

During the Dodgers' final Spring Training in Vero Beach, FL earlier this season, the team paid tribute to its fans, legendary players, coaches, managers, executives, and local officials as part of a month-long opportunity to say "Thank You" for six decades of memories.

The celebration began when the team reported for Spring Training in mid-February and culminated with the final eight games of Grapefruit League action in which Hall of Fame Manager Tommy Lasorda piloted the Dodgers while current Dodger skipper Joe Torre managed a split squad for two historic games in Beijing, China.

During the seventh-inning stretch of each home game, the organization honored the longtime employees of Dodgertown, including five who have worked in Vero Beach for more than a quarter century. Additionally, each game witnessed a different Dodger legend honored during pre-game ceremonies for his or her contributions to the organization and the city of Vero Beach over the past 60 years.
