Dodgers Have $$$ to Spend

The Dodgers 2008 salary total reached $118 million. And with the loss of free agents LHP Joe Beimel, RHP Derek Lowe, RHP Greg Maddux, RHP Chan Ho Park, 3B Casey Blake, SS Rafael Furcal, INF Nomar Garciaparra, 2B Jeff Kent, INF Mark Sweeney, LF Manny Ramirez, C Gary Bennett, RHP Jason Johnson, INF Pablo Ozuna, RHP Brad Penny, the Dodgers are freed of some $50 million in Salary.

Some will be used for raises, arbitration and the like, but still in all, there should be something left over after the current bills are paid.

All Major League franchises have accelerated in value over the past decade or more. For example, Frank McCourt bought the Dodgers, including the club, Dodger Stadium, real estate and training facilities in Vero Beach and the Dominican Republic, for $371M in 2004. In April of 2008, Forbes magazine valued the club at $500 million.
