The town of San Pedro de Macoris keep churning out quality ball players, many of them shortstops, but this one is a left-handed pitcher.

He spent two years in the Dominican Republic being plagued by control problems with a cumulative 4-5, 4.70 record the result, Sanfler came over to the U. S. to find his control and establish himself as a left-hander out of the bullpen in the process.

He's not large but his fast ball gets up to 96 mph and he had a 17-66 walk to strikeout to ratio this past summer. He challenges hitters with his heat and a good breaking ball as well.

He wound up 2-4, 3.95 with 77 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. He challenges hitters with his heat and a developing breaking ball. He's tough on lefties and may specialize in that eventually.

He flattened out, pitching in Ogden for the second straight season, but really improved his control, walking 63 in 2007 and 41 in 2008. He finished 9th on the franchise lists with 7.50 hits per nine innings, down from 8.61 per nine innings in 2007.

He'll probably move up to Inland Empire in 2009.
