Born-May 6, 1987, LaRomana, DR
Signed as a free agent, November 2003 2008 rating #43

Alfredo Silverio, in his fifth professional season at age 21, skipped Ogden in 2008 and went right to Great Lakes where he started to demonstrate some power.

He spent three years in the Dominican Summer League before getting his chance in this country. During those years his batting averages increased steadily- .240, .244, .276. He was learning his craft, something he more than demonstrated when he arrived in the USA.

In the Gulf Coast League he ramped up his game, using a short, quick stroke, he sprayed the ball around well and became simply the best hitter in his division. At the end he topped the entire league both in batting (.373) and in runs batted in (46), collecting nine doubles, three triples and six home runs.

There were stretches when he tried to become a long ball hitter but he quickly reverted to lining shots into the gaps, recognizing what pitchers were doing and driving the ball somewhere- hard. There are those that feel he'll falter as he moves up but so far the record shows he'll adjust and be a presence.

His frame could do some more filling out; (6-2, 164) and that had kept him from displaying more power -- until 2008.

Jumping past the normal progression from the Gulf Coast League, the Ogden Raptors, to Great Lakes, he began to hit with more authority and finished with 15 doubles, four triples and 10 home runs, knocking in 45.

He was very comfortable in the left field and displayed a strong throwing arm so the Loons took advantage of that to move him into right field, where he had no trouble adjusting, making some spectacular catches, plus throwing out runners from that spot.

He still strikes out too often, fanning 83 times and walking only seven but he is young and plate management comes with age.

His performance in 2008 could move him up to Inland Empire in 2009.
