Dodgers Sign Four More Free Agents

The Dodgers signed former major league outfielder Dee Brown, catcher J.D. Closser, outfielder John-Ford Griffin and pitcher Brad Halsey to minor-league contracts. The four seemed headed for Albuquerque to act as insurance policies in case they are needed in Los Angeles.

He was the Yankees first round selection (23rd overall) in the 2001 draft after hitting .400 over three seasons with the Florida State Seminoles. His .436 mark in 1999 is still a school record.

It would seem that the now 29-year-old Griffin has been in he wrong place at the wrong time most of his professional career. He has 124 home runs and 515 runs batted in over 806 minor league games. His two brief appearances in The Show leaved him with a .304 average, a .379 on-base percentage and a 1.066 OPS (on-base plus slugging).

Griffin played at Las Vegas last season, hitting .310 n 94 games. He collected 14 home runs and 67 runs batted in.

Griffin slugged 30 home runs for AAA Syracuse in 2005 and got a seven day look by the Toronto Blue Jays. He hit .304 in 13 at bats with a home run on the final day of the season.

He also hit 28 home runs and knocked in 83 runs in 2007, again getting the call from the Blue Jays and hitting an even .300 in 10 at bats ... again with a single home run.

He signed with the Dodgers in 2008 after six years with Toronto.

Dodgers Interested In Isringhausen?
Cardinals reliever Jason Isringhausen insists he remains interested in returning to the Cardinals, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says. However, the Dodgers seem to be interested in bringing him to camp to audition for middle or set-up relief.

The righthander claims he is fully recovered from September surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon and is willing to compete for a role other than closer.

Isringhausen, 36, has 293 career saves, including a franchise record 217 in seven seasons with the Cardinals. He is coming off a disastrous season in which he converted only 12 of 19 save chances and  twice lost the closer role.

"I know last year was a terrible year at a terrible time for my career," Isringhausen said. "But I don't need money. I need to get back pitching again and figure out if I can still get major-league hitters out. To me, that means getting into camp and making somebody's team."

Dodger Blue Notes -- Former Dodgers lefthander Odalis Perez is backing out of his verbal contract with the Washington Nationals and is refusing to report to camp without a better contract than a minor league deal, with an invitation to spring training. Over his last three seasons, he is 6-8, 5.77; 8-11, 4.19 and 7-12 6.71. ...The Mariners signed former Dodgers catcher Jason Phillips to a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.
