De Jesus Injury Puts Hole in 2B Slot

The Dodgers second base rolls thinned the moment Ivan De Jesus, Jr., ran into the Milwaukee catcher the plate in a "B" game and left with a broken leg. Tony Hatch, just signed as a fee agent out of the Toronto organization, will battle for the position at Albuquerque.

Then, too, there are a number of infielders on the Dodgers roster who will certainly be in the mix. Luis Maza, Chin-Lung Hu, Tony Abreu and perhaps even Blake DeWitt will be in t he mix.

The Gonzalez boys, Adolpho and Juan, could move into the second base position at Chattanooga. Juan played both second and shortstop last season, while Adolpho played, well, he played everywhere ... first base (15 games), second base (28), third (31), short (5) and even spent an evening in the outfield. And no, he didn't catch.

Inland Empire had the position pretty well covered lasts year with Bridger Hunt, Jaime Pedroza, Chris Lara and Justin Fuller, although Fuller (51 games) and Lara (44) were the primary second baseman. Victor Mercedes was picked up from the White Sox and will go into the mix.

At Great Lakes, Parker Dalton and Preston Mattingly were he only Loons to play more than seven games. Mattingly worked in 82 and Dalton 48.

Ogden had the position covered by the Dugout's Tony Delmonico, but he is in the process of being converted into a catcher. That leaves Brian Ruggiano as the heir apparent, although three young Dominicans: Enlly Morales, Rafael Ynoa and Ramon Jean will be considered.

For this report, we considered only those players with 20 or more games at the position, and there are a number of talented, young players who didn't meet that standard.

Of course, the June Free Agent Draft will infuse the system with more names to consider.

The records from 2008.
