No Shortage of Talent at Hot Corner

Brooklyn was once known as the city that had no airport, no daily paper and no third baseman. The problem carried with them to Brooklyn as the search went on for a solid man at the hot corner. But that can't be said now for the minor league system is packed with young, talented third sackers making their way toward Los Angeles.

No Shortage at Dodgers Hot Corner Las Vegas lost their three main third basemen, Terry Tiffee, Andy LaRoche and Luis Maza but the club has picked up veterans Hector Luna, Anthony Hatch and Zach Penprase in line to battle for the position at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Adolpho Gonzalez and Russell Mitchell played well at Jacksonville in 2008 and could challenge the newcomers for the Isotope slot. If not, they will be the main third basemen for Chattanooga.

Josh Bell posted a .828 OPS (on-base plus slugging), for Inland Empire before a mid-season operation ended his season. He is back and in great shape to challenge in 2009. Austin Gallagher, only 20 years old, performed very well at a high level and Chris Lara saw action with the 66ers as well.

Pedro Baez started at Great Lakes but was dropped to Ogden and Brandon Taylor was picked up from an independent team to finish out the season. Baez thrived at Ogden and helped lead the Raptors to a playoff slot.

The Dodgers thought so much of Garrett Green that they moved him off the Gulf Coast League Dodgers roster onto the Triple-A roster before the Rule V draft to make sure he wasn't lost.

Eighteen-year-old Bladimir Franco handled the third base chores for the Dominican Summer League Dodgers and, incidentally, was one of the more elderly players on the very young team.

Dodgers minor league third basemen with minimum of 20 games played at the position:
