Albert Bastardo Spectacular in Sixers Win

Albuquerque Miguel Pinango pitched well but the 'Tops were held to three hits and lost 3-0. Inland Empire got a great performance from LHP Albert Bastardo who allowed two hits over seven innings in a 4-0 win over Rancho Cucamonga and Great Lakes got clutch hits from Kyle Russell and Tony Delmonio in the eighth to beat South Bend 3-2. Chattanooga had the day off.

Royals Blank Isotopes
Three Omaha pitchers held the Albuquerque (5-6) offense scoreless and edged the 'Topes 3-0 on a another frigid afternoon at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha.

Albuquerque was held to just three hits on the day, a double and a single by Hector Luna and a single by Jason Repko.

Omaha got on the scoreboard first tagging starter Miguel Pinango for a run in the second after the 'Topes pitcher lost his balance during his wind-up and committed a balk that moved both runners into scoring position.

They got two more in the fifth on a double and a mammoth home run.

Royals pitchers held the Isotopes to three hits and two walks while striking out seven. Pinango (1-2) turned in a solid outing despite suffering his second straight defeat. The right-hander allowed all three runs on seven hits in a season-high six innings while walking four and striking out five.

The Isotopes will wrap up their four game series in Omaha today with a morning matinee before heading to Des Moines, Iowa immediately after the game. Right-hander Giancarlo Alvarado (0-1, 5.59) takes the mound against Royals ace Luke Hochevar (2-0, 2.45).

Bastard Snaps Losing Streak
Alberto Bastardo (1-1) pitched seven shutout innings and Alex Garabedian slugged his first home run as Inland Empire dumped Rancho Cucamonga 4-0 to end a five-game losing streak.

On a sweltering afternoon with the temperature hitting 95 degrees, Bastardo retiring the first 13 batters he faced. After allowing a pair of singles in the fifth, he set down the next seven batters he faced and struck out seven of them.

Garabedian led off the third inning with a drive well over the foul pole in left field for his first home run as a 66er. He also walked twice and scored a second run.

Quakes pitching limited Inland Empire to a single run on three hits in seven innings.

Leading 1-0 in the eighth, the Sixers added a pair of runs. Garabedian scored on a fielding error and a second run scored when a high pop dropped between the third baseman and shortstop for an unusual infield hit. 

After Greg Miller retired the first batter in the eighth, Justin Orenduff closed out the game with 1.2 shutout innings to earn his first save.

Eduardo Perez collected two of the three 66eer hits.

Inland Empire returns home tonight to face the Lancaster JetHawks.

Loons Score Twice in the Eighth to Win

Great Lakes Loons

Great Lakes, railing 2-1 in the eighth, saw Jaime Pedroza single with one out. Then with two outs, Kyle Russell doubled to the left-center gap to plate Pedroza and tie the game at 2-2.  The next hitter Tony Delmonico singled up the middle to score Russell to give the Loons the lead.

The rally erased a 2-1 deficit and defeatrf the South Bend Silver Hawks 3-2. With the win, the Loons take 3-of-4 from the Silver Hawks and close their seven-game homestand with a winning record.

  Nathan Eovaldi, in his second start of the season, allowed just one earned run in 4.2 innings, walking four. Javy Guerra (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings, including a 1-2-3 ninth, to record his first win of the season.

  Russell finished with three hits (two doubles) and two RBIs.  Pedroza added three singles.  Delmonico also had two hits and an RBI.

  The Loons are off today, then play at Dayton Tuesday. Right-hander Jon Michael Redding will start for the Loons against righty Oscar Castro. The Loons return to Dow Diamond Saturday with the first of four against the still-undefeated Fort Wayne TinCaps.
