Jeff Weaver, who was inserted into the rotation to increase his pitch-count, threw 60 pitches in 3.1 innings in his first 2009 start, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits while walking none and striking out four.
Weaver earned his first win of the season on April 13 after three innings of shutout relief in which he did not allow a hit vs. Iowa. He also earned a save, his first since 2002 and just the third of his professional career on April 17 at Omaha after throwing three innings in the Isotopes' 8-4 win.

Weaver, only 32, contacted the Dodgers with the idea of pitching out of the bullpen after taking to the new role while pitching in the Minor Leagues in 2008. He will earn $500,000 if he makes the team.
A free agent in 2008, he served Minor League stints with Milwaukee and Cleveland but did not appear in the Major Leagues. Since leaving the Dodgers, his composite ERA in the Major Leagues and Minor Leagues is 6.00.
To make room for Weaver on the 40-man roster, Doug Mientkiewicz was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Mientkiewicz underwent surgery after jamming his shoulder sliding head first into second base earlier in the season and is not scheduled back until September. DeWitt has seen little action, playing in nine games. His record with the Dodgers:
