Redding Named MWL Pitcher of the Week

Great Lakes Loons right-hander JonMichael Redding has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 25-31. Redding made only one start last week, but it was one to remember. The Hahira, Georgia native worked six scoreless innings against Kane County on May 27, allowing only four hits and no walks while striking out a career-high 11 Cougars in a 1-0 Loons win.

He earned his sixth win of the season and lowered his ERA from 5.88 to 5.13 with the sparkling outing, and became the only pitcher besides Dayton's Matt Fairel to strike out as many as 11 batters in a game in the Midwest League in 2009.

Redding is the second Loon to garner Player of the Week honors this season. Dee Gordon was named as the league's top hitter for the week of April 27-May 3. He is the third pitcher in Loons history to earn the weekly honor, joining Clayton Kershaw and Cody White who were feted in 2007.

Redding started yesterday against the West Michigan Whitecaps and won his seventh game.
