Songco, Galvez guide Ogden to 6-4 Win

The Arizona League Dodgers could manage only six hits and a pair of runs and were steamrollered 10-2 by the Mariners. Ogden improved their league-leading home run total to 28 after shots by Angelo Songco (#7) and Brian Cavazos-Galvez (#5). Songco's shot pushed him past teammate Jerry Sands, who has six, in the Pioneer League race.

Raptors Go Long in 6-4 win
Angelo Songco (# 5 selection in the 2009 draft) slugged his seventh homer, a grand slam, and Brian Cavazos-Galvez (#13) added a solo shot, his third home run in as many nights, and Ogden (11-8) overcame an four errors to beat the Mustangs and win for the eighth time in its first 11 games.

Ogden brought league-highs of 26 home runs and .292 batting average into the game and added to that total.

Songco belted the second slam of the week for Raptors in the bottom of the third after shortstop Bryant Hernandez (#10) collected his first hit as a professional and Lynell McGee and Austin Yount walked.

"It was a fastball, middle-away. I was just trying to get a good pitch to hit, put a good swing on it and luckily it went out," Songco said after the game.

Songco passed teammate Jerry Sands in the Pioneer League home run race. Sands, who hit Ogden's other recent grand slam, had the day off for the first time this season.

Despite giving up leadoff doubles in each of the first three innings, Raptors right-hander Edwin Contreras completed a workman-like five innings, allowing only two runs, one earned, on six hits, while winning his first decision of the season.

The Mustangs scored in the first and fifth, but Contreras worked out of a bases loaded jam in the second and escaped more trouble with a runner on third in the third. He struck out five and walked two for the win.

Reliever Fredy Quintero allowed one unearned run in two innings and Steve Ames (#17) pitched two more innings to pick up his first save despite giving up a run in the ninth as Billings out-hit the Raptors 10-7 but were held to 1-for-18 with runners in scoring position.

Ogden attempts to ends its homestand with a sweep of Billings tonight.

Mariners Smother AZ Dodgers
The Arizona League Dodgers could manage only six hits and a pair of runs and were steamrollered 10-2 by the Mariners.

Three Dodgers pitchers were battered, including starter Andres Santiago (0-1), Carl Webster and high schooler Brandon Martinez, the Dodgers #8 selection in the 2009 draft who was making his first professional appearance. Cris Gonzalez was the only pitcher to escape the flood of hits, allowing just one in his two shutout innings while striking out three.

The Dodgers jumped into a brief, 1-0 lead in the first inning when Stetson Banks led off with a triple and scored on a fielding error.

The Mariners ran off the next 10 runs before the Dodgers finally got back on the board in the ninth. Jonathan Garcia doubled and Pedro Tavarez singled him across for the final run of the game.

Melvin Ray was the only Dodger with more than a single hit.
