Cavazos-Galvez Homers Twice in Ogden Win

Ogden outfielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez slugged a pair of home runs and the Raptors pitching staff struck out 13 in an 8-2 win at Billings. The Giants and Yankees rookie league teams battered the Dodgers in Arizona (14-1) and the Dominican (13-3).

Dodgers Beat Heat, Mustangs
The temperature was 102 in Billings and Ogden slugger Brian Cavazos-Galvez was just as hot, slugging a pair of home runs and driving in four as the Raptors recorded an 8-2 win over the Mustangs.

The heat didn't seem to bother three Ogden pitchers, Edwin Contreras (2-0) Andrew Suiter and Steven Ames, who ran up 13 strikeouts to lead the Raptors.

Cavazos-Galvez, the man whose name causes problems for typesetters who try, unsuccessfully, to wedge it into box scores and clubhouse attendants who have to put the names on the proper locker, boomed a solo shot in the fifth, then added another home run, this one for two runs in the eighth.

The bombardment allowed him to take over the league lead with eight home runs. He also singled in Brian Ruggiano in the first inning, finishing his productive night 3-for-5 night.

Ruggiano and David Iden each had a pair of hits for the Raptors (14-10), now 3-4 on their seven-game road trip to the north. Jerry Sands also doubled in a run.

Contreras pitched well before leaving in the sixth with a 6-2 lead. After allowing an early run, he retired nine straight Mustangs. Contreras finished with five strikeouts and one walk over 5 2/3 innings of work.

Andy Suiter took over in the seventh and walked the bases loaded before ending the inning with only run scoring. Andy Ames worked the final 2.1 innings to earn his second save and, combined with Suiter, struck out eight in the final 3.1 innings.

The teams meet again this afternoon, followed by night games on Monday and Tuesday.

AZL Dodgers Held to One Hit
Nick Akins doubled with two out in the first inning and that would be the only hit the Arizona Giants pitching would allow while Giants batters were pounding six Dodger pitchers for 16 hits in a 13-1 rout.

The only Dodger run scored in the sixth inning when Stetson Banks, Casio Grider, Taiwan Perry and Ryan Arp walked. A dozen Dodgers struck out during the game.

Carlos Frias (1-3), Chris Handke, John Hernandez, Jimmy Marshall, Justin Dignelli and Gari Tavarez all took their turns on the mound for the Dodgers. Frias was ripped for nine hits, nine run and issued four walks before leaving in the fourth.

Dominican Dodgers Thumped
The Dominican Dodgers fared little better than their rookie league cousins in Arizona, losing a 13-3 decision to the Yankees1.

The Dodgers used five pitchers in an attempt to stop the carnage after the Yankees rolled up a 11-0 lead after three innings.

Luis Mesa started and bore the brunt of the Yankees attack. He allowed nine hits and nine runs, eight earned, before leaving in the third inning.

Jose Lugo and Edward Bens knocked in a run each.
