Ogden Closes in On Pioneer Division Lead

Ogden topped Billings 6-3 to pull within percentage points of the division leader. The two rookie teams, Arizona and the Dominican Dodgers, each took leads into the late innings but let them slip away. The Arizona Dodgers lost 11-8 to the Angels and the Dominican kids dropped am 8-5 decision to the Mets.

Raptors Stagger to 6-3 Win
Ogden, the Pioneer League-leader in home runs, had to make due without one and found the task much more difficult. However, they battled back from a 3-2 deficit to collect 11 shorter hits and score in the sixth, seventh and eighth and take an 6-3 decision at Billings.

The win made it 5-1 on the current road trip and three in a row at Dehler Park in Billings. The win pushed the 16-10 Raptors within percentage points of Idaho Falls (15-9) for first place in the Pioneer League's South Division.

Ogden pitchers allowed only a pair of earned runs, both surrendered by Brett Wallach, making his third start of the season.

Antonio Castillo took over in the third and earned his second win of the season, recording seven walks in his four innings of work and giving up a run that put the Mustangs up 3-2 after five. Fredy Quintero dropped his earned run average to 0.75 with three scoreless innings to pick up the save.

Ogden scored twice in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead on a leadoff walk by Brian Ruggiano Austin Yount's single, a sac fly from Brian Cavazos-Galvez and Griff Erickson's double.

Trailing 3-2, Ogden scored a run in the sixth on a walk, a hit-by-pitch and a fielder's choice. Then in the seventh Bryan Hernandez doubled, Ruggiano singled and with two out Cavazos-Galvez doubled Brian Ruggiano home from second base.

A pair of insurance runs crossed the plate in the eighth on a passed ball and a wild pitch.

Erickson collected three hits on the night, while Ruggiano had a pair of hits and walked twice.

The strange game featured four errors, two unusual interference plays and a total of 21 baserunners left stranded by the two clubs who combined to go 4-for-24 with runners in scoring position.

The two teams meet again tonight in the final game of the four-game series. The Raptors have an off day to travel home, then begin a five-game homestand at Lindquist Field, featuring two games against Casper their first meeting with Idaho Falls on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
