Ogden Rolls an Eight, Takes Two Game Lead

Ogden procrastinated until the eighth inning before scoring eight times to erase a 4-0 Casper lead and take an 8-5 win, moving two games in front of second place Idaho Falls in he process. Stetson Banks' three-run home run gave the AZ Dodgers a 9-7 lead and the Dominican Dodgers were held to one hit in an 8-1 loss to the Rays.

Eight in Eighth a Winner
Folks who wait until the last minute to take care of business (which is most of us) are a bother and the Ogden Raptors have to be placed in that category after puttering around until the eighth inning before scoring eight times to put last-place Casper away by an 8-5 margin.

Idaho Falls lost 2-0 to Orem, giving the Raptors a golden opportunity to put some distance between themselves and the Chukars before the final, crucial three-game series that will end the first half of play.

But for seven innings Ogden's offense was held in check by the Casper pitching staff and the Ghosts held a 4-0 lead into the top of the eighth.

Then in the eighth inning, Ogden remembered why they had come to Casper and they sent 12 hitters to the plate and scored eight times for an 8-5 come-from-behind win over the Ghosts.

The win boosts Ogden to a two game lead with just five to play in the season's first half, three of them against Idaho Falls.

The Raptors were held to three hits and a walk by the Casper starter and a reliever added a perfect seventh inning and it looked as they were certain to lose to the last place Ghosts.

Then Pedro Guerrero got underway in the eighth with a leadoff single. Rafael Ynoa followed with an infield single and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Lenell McGee, who would make two of the three outs in the inning, flew out to left field before Austin Yount walked to load the bases.

Brian Cavazos-Galvez quickly lined a single to right knock in both Guerrero and Ynoa and send Barraza to put Ogden on the scoreboard. Cleanup hitter Jerry Sands was booted by the Casper third baseman, again loading the bases.

Gorman Erickson followed with a two-run double to right field, bringing home Yount and Cavazos-Galvez to tie the score at 4-4. Kyle Orr was walked intentionally to load the bases and Blake Smith rapped a sharp grounder to the Casper first baseman who opted to go home for the force at the plate but instead threw he ball over the catcher's head, scoring both Sands and Erickson and giving Ogden a 6-4 lead.

Up for the second time, Guerrero followed with a sacrifice fly and Ynoa added an RBI single to complete the eight run inning, the most runs Ogden has scored in a single inning this year.

Matt Magill stared and allowed three hits and three unearned runs. Jordan Roberts (1-0) pitched two innings for Ogden to earn the win. Casper scored a run in the ninth off J.B. Paxson.

Ogden and Casper play the second game of their series tonight with Edwin Contreras (3-0) on the mound for Ogden and Clint Tilford (1-2) going for the Ghosts.

Late AZ Dodger Rally Wins
Outfielder Stetson Banks slugged a three run home run with two out n the eighth inning to give the Arizona Dodgers a 9-7 decision over the Indians and their third win in the last four games.

The Dodgers let a 6-1 lead slip through their fingers and trailed 7-5 going into the last of the eighth. Michael Pericht walked and Ryan Arp reached base on a throwing error. But a force play and a fly ball to center field made chances look bleak.

But the Rangers' shortstop dropped a foul pop, giving Stetson a second chance and he took advantage of it and slugged his long shot over the left field fence for three runs. Jim Marshall worked a perfect ninth to nail down the win and earn his first save of the season.

Carl Webster started and was tagged for three runs, two earned and adding six strikeouts in his four innings. Andres Santiago turned a 6-3 lead into a 7-6 deficit when he allowed four sixth-inning runs.

Gari Tavarez added a perfect seventh and John Hernandez did the same in the eighth, lowering his ERA to 1.42, and benefitting from the Stetson home run to record his second win of the season.

The Dodgers scored five times in the first, keyed by Nick Akins three-run home run, his sixth. Ryan Arp added his first home run of the season later in the inning. Arp added a sac fly in the third build an 6-1 lead.
