DSL Dodgers Only Short Season Winner

Ogden's late rally comes up short again and lost to Casper 12-9. The Arizona Dodgers booted in four unearned runs in the first and lost 7-4 to the Royals. The DSL Dodgers four game slump and won their first game in August by a 9-3 margin over the Blue Jays.

Nine Run Second KOs Raptors
Ogden scored five runs in the last of the ninth for the third straight time, they've got that down pat, but they need to keep their opponents somewhat closer for the exercise to work.

In the first game of the series, a J.T. Wise sparked the explosion and gave the Raptors a win. One night later, their five runs fell one short and they lost 9-8. Last night, the five runs only cut the Casper lead to 12-9.

Casper, realizing Ogden's inclination toward late-inning heroics, nearly put the game out of reach after two innings, scoring nine times for a 10-3 lead.

Brett Wallach (0-1) was unable to get out of the second inning and left after facing 13 Ghosts and allowing seven runs, six of them earned. In the second inning he was tagged with two singles, two doubles and back-to-back home runs before Antonio Castillo replaced him.

The final bill came to nine runs, eight hits, five for extra bases.

The move didn't improve things all that much. Castillo gave up four walks, a wild pitch and a triple before the inning mercifully ended. Joe Paxson and Jordan Roberts worked the final four innings and between them allowed only a single run.

Ogden overcame a first inning run with three of their own. Pedro Guerrero singled, Brian Cavazos-Galvez doubled and Jerry Sands tripled and scored on Gorman Erickson's ground ball.

Then came the deluge.

Trailing 12-4 in the last of the ninth, Kyle Orr boomed home run to center to lead off. With one out, Rafael Ynoa walked and with two out, Pedro Guerrero hit a bouncer that should have ended the game, but the Casper third baseman misplayed it into a two-base error. Cavazos-Galvez singled in Guerrero and Jerry Sands hammered his league-leading 14th home run, a three-run shot to make it 12-9.

A glorious rally but too short.

Cavazos-Galvez was 3-for-5, Sands had a triple and a home run, good for four runs batted in and Rafael Ynoa added two singles.

Happy to have the Ghosts haunting someplace else, Ogden welcomes Idaho Falls for a three-game series beginning tonight.

Royals Strike Early to Dump AZ Dodgers
Brandon Martinez has had trouble settling into his professional career and two errors by his teammates in the first inning cost him four unearned runs and his third loss off the season as the Royals took a 7-4 decision.

Brian Akin surrendered two more runs in the third and the Dodgers were facing a mountain they couldn't climb.

Trailing 7-0, the young Dodgers scored single runs in the third, fourth, sixth and ninth.

Jan Vasquez doubled and scored on Casio Grinders single in the third; a double by Garrett Green and Chris Henderson's triple in the fourth added a second run. They scored a run without a hit in the sixth and a wild pitch allowed their final tally.

Andres Santiago, John Hernandez and Amauri Guzman worked five scoreless innings to close out the game for the Dodgers.
