Home Runs Don't Help Short Season Teams

Ogden lost a 4-3 contest to Idaho Falls despite a two-run home run by Bryant Hernandez. Both the Arizona and Dominican Dodgers suffered tough losses in 11 innings, the Arizona team losing to the Padres and the Pirates overcoming three home runs to top the Dominican club.

This Night Raptors Out of Miracles
Ogden nearly pulled another rabbit out of their hats but lost a 4-3 decision to Idaho Fall and, more damaging, lost Pioneer League home run leader Jerry Sands, who is being promoted to Great Lakes, the Dodgers' Class A Midwest League affiliate.

Trailing by a run in the eighth, and with runners at first and third with one out, and one Griff Erickson smacked a to left field. Lenell McGee tagged and attempted to score but Chukars catcher Salvador Perez preserved the lead by moving up the first base line to the throw from the outfield and making a diving tag at the plate.

The Raptors, who had scored five runs in the last of the ninth in the previous three games, were retired in order in the ninth.

Idaho Falls tagged starter Matt Magill for a run in the first but Ogden tied the game in the third on McGee;s RBI single. The Chukars tapped Magill for another singleton in the fourth and added two more off Eric Thompson in the fifth.

In the bottom of the inning, Blake Smith singled and scored when Bryant Hernandez rapped his second homer to make it 4-3 and that was the way the game ended.

Ogden manager Damon Berryhill was thrown out for the second time in the homestand in the seventh inning for disputing a balk call on Thompson.

Nick Gaudi's two scoreless innings kept the Raptors close but three straight struck out in the ninth to end the game.

The two teams will complete their three-game series tonight. Ogden has Sunday off before beginning a seven-game Montana road trip at Helena on Monday.

Three Homers Don't Help DSL Dodgers
José Ramirez homered and knocked in three runs and Enlly Morales added a solo home run to account for all the Dominican Dodgers runs but they still lost 5-4 in 11 innings.

The Pirates overcame a 1-0 Dodgers lead on Morales solo home run in the fifth by scoring three times off starter Moises Tamarez. Ramirez ripped his first home run in the fifth with Morales on base with an error to tie the game.

Ramirez's second home run gave the Dodgers their final lead, 4-3 in the eighth but Daniel Tamares' wild pitch allowed the Pirates to knot the game in the last of the same inning.
