Short Season Teams Swept

The Dodgers three Short Season teams, Ogden, AZ Dodgers and Dominican Dodgers, were roughed up, allowing 32 runs and scoring only 11. Ogden dropped an 8-1 decision to Helena; the Arizona Dodgers lost 8-6 to the Indians and the Dominican kids were battered 16-4 by the Rays.

Raptors Dumped 8-1
Helena brushed off Ogden's 1-0 first-inning lead and went on to win 8-1. Graham Miller was KO'ed in the fifth inning and took the loss, his second against three wins.

The opportunistic Helena Brewers out-hit the Raptors 7-6, but got every bit out of each hit and won the opener of a four-game series to start Ogden's week-long road trip.

Ogden scored a run in the top of the first, when Brian Ruggiano singled, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Brian Cavazos-Galvez's single. In the second, Bryant Hernandez followed a walk to Blake Smith but the Raptors didn't score.

The Raptors couldn't manage another hit until the eighth inning after Hernandez single in the second.

Raptors' starter Luis Vasquez (2-3) allowed five hits, four earned, and reliever Graham Miller surrendered the final three in the seventh to put the game on ice.

The loss was Ogden's first by more than three runs since July 2.

The clubs will continue their series Tuesday night, as Helena sends undefeated right-hander Nick Bucci to the mound looking for his seventh win. Ogden will counter with righty Brett Wallach.

Indians Hold on to Early Lead
The Arizona Indians built an 8-1 lead and although the Dodgers rammed five across in the sixth inning, they could never quite catch up, losing an 8-6 decision.

Starter Andres Santiago was charged with all eight Indian runs and took his third loss against two wins.

Reliever Brandon Martinez had the best professional game of his young career, working 3.2 innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out four.

Chris Henderson doubled and scored on Pedro Tavarez's single in the first to give the Dodgers a short-lived 1-0 lead.

Trailing by seven, they scored five times in the sixth and left the tying runs on base. Casio Grider singled and Garret Green walked. Henderson lived on an error, Grider scoring the first run. Ramon Jean's single knocked in Henderson before Jonathan Garcia's two-RBI single and an outfield error allowed the final run.

Tavarez and Jean collected three hits each of the 10 the Dodgers could manage.

Dodgers Staff Thumped
The Dominican Dodgers used seven pitchers in an attempt to stop the Rays but they allowed 16 runs, 16 hits, 13 walks and threw in a pair of errors with a resulting 16-4 loss.

The Rays scored the first three runs of the game and the Dodgers were never in the contest.

Edward Bens rapped out three singles but was left on base each time. José Ramirez had a two-run double in the fifth and Charlie Mirabal collected the only other RBI.

Yimi Garcia (3-2) allowed six hits and three runs over his four innings and he was followed by a parade of pitchers who were ineffective.
