Dodgers Have 34 Minor League Free Agents

The Baseball Winter Meetings will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 7-10, with the Rule V draft the final item on the agenda on December 10. The Dodgers have 34 minor league free agents, the most in baseball, while the Cardinals have seven.

Attendees at the Winter Meetings include club owners, front office personnel, league officials and just about anyone from the business side of the game whether from Minor League Baseball, Major League Baseball or internationally.

Major League Baseball granted free agency on Nov. 9 to 536 minor league players. They include those eligible who not included on 40-man rosters.

As in the amateur draft held in the spring, the selection order of the teams is based on each team's win-loss record from the prior regular season, each round starting with the team with the worst record and proceeding in order to the team with the best record.

Players are eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft who are not on their major league organization's forty man roster and were signed at age 19 or older and have been in the organization for four years; or were signed at age 18 or younger and have been in the organization for five years.

Baseball America listed the free agents by classification: Triple-A, 59.7 percent; Double-A, 26.7 percent; high Class A, 8.2 percent; low Class A, 2 percent. The 18 players in short-season ball constitute 3.4 percent of the pool.
