Dodgers Prospect #33 -- RHP JonMichael Reddin

JonMichael Redding, the No. 5 selection in the 2008 draft, demonstrated great tenacity while recording a 16-3 record for Great Lakes. Despite allowing an earned run average just over five per game, he won seven of his final 10 starts for the Loons and finished the season 9-1 at home, with a 2.61 ERA, and was 7-2 on the road. He is our prospect #33.

Jon Michael Redding was a standout at Lowndes High School, Georgia -- the same alma mater as J.D. and Steven Drew -- and two years in succesion he earned All-Region honors as both a pitcher and a shortstop. He continued to impress at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, recording n 8-5 record and a 2.02 earned run average, striking out 123 in 124.1 innings while walking only 29. That earned him the Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year honors and a scholarship offer at LSU.

But when Dodgers scout Scott Hennessy, who had scouted him for a number of years, came calling in the fifth round of the 2008 draft, he quickly signed on the dotted line and was sent to Ogden in the Pioneer League.

Redding struggled his rookie season, working in 13 games, nine of them starts, and was 0-4, 5.17. He gave up 39 hits in 31.1 innings, walked 11 and struck out 36.

Promoted to Class-A Great Lakes in 2009, he posted great numbers, leading the Dodgers system with a glittering 16-3, 4.60 record and earning mid-season All-Star honors. He did, however, allow 149 hits in 133.0 innings wile walking 39 and striking out only 96.

Redding was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 25-31. Redding made only one start, but it was one to remember. He worked six scoreless innings against Kane County on May 27, allowing only four hits and no walks while striking out a career-high 11 Cougars in a 1-0 Loons win. He earned his sixth win of the season against two losses and lowered his ERA from 5.88 to 5.13 with the sparkling outing.

He also earned the June Dodgers Pride Award at Great Lakes when he went 3-1 with a 2.96 ERA in five starts. After May 22, he was 4-1 with a 2.58 ERA in seven starts.

He will be 22 in 2009 and will probably start the season with Inland Empire in the California League.
